I headed up to Austin for a quick weekend getaway & snagged a great SPGPro Rate at the Westin Downtown. The location is superb as you are 1 block from the famed 6th street & the rooftop pool overlooking the Frost Bank Tower.
The rooms are well appointed and with only being 1 year since opening all features are modern and updated. The pool is definitely the highlight and I spent most of my time enjoying the cabanas along with a coconut cooler. The food offered at Azul was a bit of a disappointment but you can order from Stella San Jac downstairs and enjoy poolside: think shortrib grilled cheese, fried avocado salad or their signature burger-yum.
Austin is a very active city where you can bike, paddle board & kayak along the Colorado River that runs through the city. I recommend venturing out of downtown to explore Zilker Park & roaming South Congress neighborhood…While there stop into Perla’s Seafood & Oyster Bar for brunch or a refreshing cocktail. Some other new favorites of the city included Wu Chow where dishes of Honey Pecan Prawns, soup dumplings & two faced crispy noodles are served family style. There are also no shortage of funky bars but the Red Headed Stepchild is a must- next to Handlebars use the secret code (it changes) to enter a small speakeasy style establishment.
