The St. Lucia Tourism Board was a wonderful host starting with flying me down to the Lesser Antilles in First Class and putting me up in a boutique hotel for 4 nights. I spent the next three days exploring the island visiting some incredible properties.
Situated between the famous Pitons is Sugar Beach by Viceroy and the name fits- it has the whitest sand on the island and is pure luxury. You can choose from a Luxury Villa, Beachfront Bungalow or even a Five Bedroom Residence, but it wasn’t just the accommodations that sold me but the spa…oh that spa! The treatment rooms are tree houses that wind up the hillside and are beyond tranquil.
PROS: Location, SPA!, secluded beach (Note: all beaches in St. Lucia are public)
CONS: Very Pricy $$$$
Ladera: another fabulous hotel that sits high above with views of the Gros and Petit Piton. Along with Jade Mountain, Ladera is know for having open rooms with just 3 walls that expose you to the elements- it may not be the best option in the summer months…you know with no air conditioning and all.
PROS: Location, access to Sugar Beach, plunge pools in all suites
CONS: No A/C
After a bit of partying it would be nice to retreat to The Body Holiday. This All-Inclusive Resort is tucked away up at the north side of the island and focuses on wellness. *Included in your stay is a daily 50 min spa treatment!
PROS: Tons of on site activities & world class cuisine
CONS: With so many treatment rooms the area didn’t feel as serene as it looked.
Another great All-Inclusive option are the Sandals Resorts. There happen to be 3 on the island: The Grande, Halcyon & Regency La Toc. These adult only properties cater to couples (honeymooners mostly) and have an exchange privileges between them.
PROS: Sandals brand means high quality, great locations & the Rondavel Suites at the Grande
CONS: too many room categories, make sure to read description carefully & locate on property map before booking- best bet call your travel consultant!
Calabash Cove is a boutique property were you have the option of room only, breakfast daily or All-Inclusive rates. I loved their Swim Up Jr. Suites as you could step from your room to the infinity pool to the swim up bar but the Water’s Edge Cottages take the cake. There are nine on property and feature a plunge pool & out door rain shower.
PROS: Boutique feel, amazing water views, choice of hotel rate
CONS: only one restaurant but menu changes daily & tiny spa
Finally if you are looking for a home away from home feel The Landings has a community feel with their condo style floor plans located up on Rodney Bay. A nice perk is if you have a boat you can park it right outside of your unit as the resort has a private marina.
PROS: nice beach, kitchens in all units, private marina
CONS: small pools, limited amenities
